About a week ago I had the pleasure of interviewing Escada’s creative director Daniel Wingate and Harper’s Bazaar Editor and celebrity stylist Anita Patrickson. They both were in town to introduce Escada’s fall collection to a selective group of Escada clients. I was introduce to Daniel Wingate by Bethany during one of his previews visit so I was delight to interview him. I was a bit more nervous to meet Anita Patrickson since it was my first time meeting her and I mean, just google her name and you would see her PHENOMENAL work. Luckily Anita was such a delight! We talk about our common favorite thing; fashion of course! “Right now I am so in to overalls, But I am not sure if it looks like I need to have a sippy cup. They are so comfortable. I do so much of moving racks and styling and going up and down that wearing anything that is comfortable is huge” said Anita while talking about our latest obsessions. I know she is so funny. I don’t think I had laugh so much at an interview.
Can you describe your style in 3 words
DW- Luxury, feminine, color
AP- easy, classic; I tend to like really simple pieces and never do too trendy, and funky,
How do you mix simple with funky?
AP- I generally start with very simple pieces and then kind of add in either a really cool necklace or funky bag but I tend to have a small section in my wardrobe that I use all the time, all the same pieces, so like a lot of neutrals, a lot of denim, black pants, leather pants, black motorcycle jacket is one that I live in and I tend to put that with either jeans or a dress on. I have a lot of staples and the I try to find one or two pieces to funk it up.
What was your inspiration for the spring collection?
DW- Cote de Sur, a little bit of the Mediterranean coast in Europe, so very floral, lots of flower prints but very graphics as it not like floral romantic, more graphic two tone. For spring and summer you just was something that you can just put on with a great print and a great color, it is graphic somehow but easy.
What was your favorite look from Escada’s fall collection ?
AP- I am obsess with jumpsuits at the moment so what I am currently wearing is my favorite look! I know it is a bit weir to be wearing it and saying it is my favorite look at the same time, but it really is. I absolutely love it and again it is so elegant and so chic. I could wear it with a big necklace to make it a little more funky or maybe something more classic like I did today with simple earrings and my hair up. It is so versatile that I can imagine myself wearing this in twenty years time. Also it is just so flattering, I just ate an enormous omelets and you might not know it.
What are your favorite trends for fall?
AP- Fashion wise, tweed I think is one that I love. I really love trends that are timeless, that someone can invest in and not feel like they have blown it all like a neon top that they are never going to wear again. I feel like tweet is really classic is really elegant. I really like the academic inspired looks like university, that kind of feel which is really fun. The 90s punk thing is actually really cool, I am really enjoying that. Right now I am really in to leather. Escada has a pair of leather pants which are gorgeous. I think the one thing people don’t realize about escada is that is so modern and so fresh and is so gorgeous that I feel that it has move in to a very special direction specially with Daniel heading the ship, it is very fresh and funky . The great thing that I found about Escada is that you can mix and match pieces, it is not a set look. You can really pull from the way they were showing it in a different way. I think that is one of the fabulous things that has come from this collection.
DW- As it for me, probably the Escada pants are really important. I think for a trend for print this is all kind of photographic or digital that is still going on. Color is obviously very important for the brand, but the colors are still intense but they are more subdued pop of color, it is bold but still chic at the same time. So definitively leathers and menswear and definitively the early 90s thing is happening.
AP- And the mix fabrics is definitively one that we seen a lot of, People are not afraid to kin of mix a beautiful silk chiffon with a much heavier and more structure fabric, and I think we seen a lot of that on the runways and a lot of that in the Escada collection.
DW- The 80s is such an over the top trend while for me at least during the 90s there was sort of the beginning of the minimalistic but there was still an edge to it with almost an androgens feeling which is so cool
How would you describe the Escada women?
DW- Dynamic, joie de vivre as if she loves to live, she love to laugh loves to flirt, knowledgeable of fashion, she knows the difference between fabrics, quality and fit, there for she is very loyal.
AP- I feel Escada is a brand for the sophisticated women , that women you want to be, the women who has the most amazing day from the minute she wakes up to the minute she goes to bed.
DW- But she is warm and she is friendly. She is cool and approachable and dynamic, she’ll hug you when she sees you. The clothes would be enhancing her and not taking over her in a way.
Huge thanks to Daniel Wingate and Anita Patrickson for their time, Neiman Marcus and Priscilla from PPD photos from the photographs.
